Almost 400,000 burglaries are reported every year, this figure peaks during Winter so tenants and landlords are advised to carry out periodic security checks on their properties.  According to website – Tenants Voice, rented properties are less secure than owner occupied properties and while it is the landlords’ responsibility to ensure the safety of their tenants all tenants must be proactive to protect the property and its contents – whether they are the landlords’ or the tenants.

Advice to tenants on the website is that they should change the locks when they move in, save the old locks and refit them on moving out. NAIP would like to remind all tenants that they need the landlord’s permission for any lock change and the landlord and agent if appropriate will need copies of the new keys – these must be supplied by the tenants.
